Teva Extreme Games 2011

At the last minute, myself Jenny Chrimes and Tom 'Walking' Wakeling decided to head over to Italy for the Teva Extreme Mountain Games before the Freestyle World Championships.

The trip started off well and we hammered it over to Italy in time for plenty of practice….
So we went for our first run down the Chiusella river in the stunning Italian mountains, which is a solid class four/four plus run, led by Jen who had run the river the year before. The first two sections went well, after we had got our head's around the second drop which was a good five to six metres (and later claimed a broken ankle), then we hit the third which resulted in me breaking my paddle and being pulled back into a small hole upside down, so I attempted a bit more C1 style but it wasn't going well so I hiked out. Our two intrepid adventurers carried on down with clean lines until they hit the 'hard hard left' drop which had changed from the year before and unknowingly Jen pushed through too central and got thrown over backwards onto a rock, sub-lax dislocated her shoulder and smashed up her hand!

Check out our update video after the first run down….

The next drama came when Jen lent her boat to our new German friend Maxi for the race who managed to swim part way down and she missed her run so we hammered down the river with her the next day for cover with the team runs. Needless to say she was handsomely reimbursed with Tevas and beers by both Maxi and Arndt (Mr Teva)!

We then headed down to the slalom course in Ivrea for the rest of the competition, which included team slalom, individual slalom, boater cross, team race and an individual race. Needless to say the team races were a little bit entertaining, check out the video below of the day time team slalom.

Thanks very much to all involved, we had a fantastic time and will be back next year a little bit more prepared!!

Oh and Jenny got a bit bored with her injury and we got creative with the camera….
